The company was founded in 1974 by Mr. Battista Zanotti in Brescia, Italy, and it was named Officine Meccaniche Zanotti. It was a small workshop which produced spare parts for rolling mills during the heyday of the development of the steel industry in the north of Italy. Mr. Zanotti specialized in manufacturing mill stands and gearboxes very soon, thanks to his innate capability.
